Featured Fighter Brian Bowles
Fighter Profile
GeorgiaMMA.com was able to steal Brian Bowles away from his rigorous training for a few minutes to discuss his upcoming bout with Marcos Galvao in the WEC on DEC 12th.
Georgiamma - Brian congratulations on your win in your last fight in the WEC over Charlie Valencia. How did it feel coming off that victory?
BB: It felt great. WEC called, I was supposed to get beat up and I came out on top. I think I looked good and I think I impressed some fans.
Georgiamma - That leads me to my next question. Do you feel like you were brought in to lose that fight to help build Valencia up?
BB: I mean yeah, that’s what we all thought. We all thought that he was going to get the next title shot and I think I derailed it.
Georgiamma - Yeah that’s what it looks like. If you don’t mind me asking how many fights do you have left on your contract with the WEC?
BB: Three.
Georgiamma - Three?
BB: Yeah.
Georgiamma - Your next opponent is Marcus Galveo. How much do you know about him and have you viewed any footage on him?
BB: I watched one fight on the internet. You know I know he is a black belt and that is all I really know. I know he wins all of his fights by decision, he’s lost one by decision so.
Georgiamma - I know he has a shooto background and he’s a black belt, are you going to try to keep it standing or are you comfortable where ever the fight goes.
BB: Yeah, I am comfortable where ever the fight goes. I just plan on pushing the pace and test his cardio.
Georgiamma - How many fights do you feel you need to win in order to get a title shot?
BB: I guess it depends on who they get me to fight. As long as I keep fighting the contenders or the next guy in line for the title shot then, well I don’t know it’s really up to them. At least a couple of more fights.
Georgiamma - So do you think it really depends on the quality of the next opponents that you face?
BB: Yeah, I’ve been fighting the good guys so far so as long as I keep beating them.
Georgiamma - Brian how did you get into MMA?
BB: My friend Stephen Ledbetter came over to my house one day and said he was doing this MMA thing and I have to try it out. So I came and signed up.
Georgiamma - Did you do any wrestling in high school?
BB: Yeah, I wrestled three years in high school. I started pretty late I was kind of behind in all of that. But, yeah it was only three years.
Georgiamma - Do you feel that your wrestling helped you transition into MMA?
BB: Yeah definitely. Wrestlers I think catch on quicker than none wrestlers. Plus they have got the shot and hip movement. They have a big advantage.
Georgiamma - Brian, what are your goals?
BB: I would like to be the WEC Champ.
Georgiamma - Is there anyone that you look up to in the sport?
BB: I like to look up to the fighters here in Hard Core. The guys that I see in here everyday, this is where my roots are at and I just like to keep it here.
Georgiamma - How is your training going getting ready for this fight and are you doing anything any differently for this fight that you have not done for previous fights?
BB: I try to stay in good shape and keep my hands good. You know we watched video of the guy then my partners will try to mimmick what he does and you know little things. It’s never going to be exactly like it looks on video. Your never going to fight exactly the same, so I just train to win and not to lose.
Georgiamma - Well Brain we will let you get back to training and good luck in your upcoming fight. |
